Keep your pants on!

I am an oddity among female hockey players in that I wear suspenders on my pants. My hips are just not that big -  with the front laced completely closed, the pants still slide down. It doesn't help that all the under-layers are quite slippery.

Two Christmases ago, my family bought me new pants, because my old ones were second-hand and pretty awful. Just this winter, after only one season of use, I lost one of the buttons that keeps the suspenders on. A few weeks later, I lost one on the other side. The result was that in the front, my suspenders were each hooked on one button instead of two. One more button and I would have been unable to keep my pants on. Really, Reebok, how cheap can you get, that the buttons don't even last one season of use? I'm not particularly rough on my gear, either.

I finally bought some replacement buttons (jeans buttons) at a sewing store this week and installed them. Pretty easy to do, even without using all the YouTube videos about installing jeans buttons. There were instructions on the back of the package, after all, and I'm not a complete idiot. I didn't have a tailor's awl to get the hole started, so I started the hole using a yarn needle, then a nail to increase the size of the hole. The old buttons had torn right through the fabric so I had to choose a new spot entirely for the buttons.
Two original Reebok buttons, two new buttons, and two holes from the old buttons. :(

Unfortunately, my timing was bad and the hammering woke the baby up from his nap. (Oops.) At least it's done now, and I'll be able to keep my pants on.
